CALL FOR PRESENTERS

Music in the School and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC) 22nd International Pre-Conference Seminar
8th-12th July 2018
New York University (Prague Campus), Prague

AIM
The mission of the Music in the Schools and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC) is to promote the development of research and innovations in theory and practice in the fields of music teaching in schools and teacher education. The commission serves to support, develop and maintain international collaboration, coalitions and strategic alliances and exchange of pedagogical resources, innovative teaching approaches and experiences among professionals and institutions from around the world. The aim of the MISTEC pre-conference seminar is to engage participants, presenters, and commissioners in enriching dialogues and in hands-on experiences related to school music teaching and learning and to music teacher education by exploring current best practices and research.

As part of the inclusive, boutique-style pre-conference seminar that MISTEC is renowned for, we provide practical support for accommodation and food for presenters of spoken papers and workshops. Accordingly, full attendance and participation in the pre-conference seminar is expected of all presenters. This facilitates a ‘shared purpose and understanding’, that enables the commission to have a sustainable and ongoing impact beyond the conference period.  Additionally, in 2018, to encourage presentation from areas where funding is not available for travel, we will have 3 travel awards available (to the value of US$1200 each). Those wishing to be considered for the travel awards must indicate as much in their submission.

The Music In Schools and Teacher Education Commission (MISTEC) 2018 pre-conference seminar to be held in Prague will focus on Global, Lifelong Learning Through Music. This theme feeds into the main ISME conference theme of Life’s Journey Through Music and emphasises music-making and music learning and teaching, across the life-span and across cultures. Workshop and paper presentations from around the world will highlight ways to extend current theoretical and educational thinking, together with exchanging innovative practical approaches for music education and teacher education. The collaboration fostered through this intimate, focussed seminar enables the shared development of educational policies and practices geared towards ensuring quality music education for all children.
